In a return to Colorado and return to his winning ways, Ron defeated the always tough Mark "The Bear" Smith in the Born To Be Bad main event in Loveland, Colorado.
Smith, who has fought a virtual who's-who in the MMA world was tough as always. Win or lose, nobody walks away from a fight with The Bear unscathed. It took Ron to the 2:16 mark of round number two to finally submit him with an arm triangle choke.

Ron Waterman comes up short against Dave "Pee Wee" Herman
Ron's return to Hawaii, the same place he won the X1 Heavyweight Title only 5 months before, was supposed to be the next step on the way to the top. Appearently someone forgot to tell this to Dave Herman. Ron never seemed to get started and in less than 2:20 of the first round, it was over.
Dave Herman is one fighter to keep your eye in the future.

Ron Waterman defeats Anula Brash winning the X1 Heavyweight title
At Hawaii's Blaisdell Arena, fans got more than their money's worth with a 4 man 185lb tournament and a main event fight for the X1 World Events Heavyweight World Championship belt.
As is so often the case, Ron's opponent brought his "A" game and gave everything he could before eventually being keylocked by the H2O man early in the second round. Anula Brash came out swinging and even dropped Ron with some vicious leg kicks. Ron's superior conditioning and wrestling proved to be way too much for the young Hawaiian.

Rinaldi, who many considered the favorite coming in, was no match for the new and improved standup skills of the H2O man. In a reversal of roles, "Big Hurt" took down Ron and actually managed to attain full mount at one point in the fight. Ron eventually got back to his feet and the two warriors traded bombs until Rinaldi finally succumbed at 4:39 of the opening round.

A tragic car accident claimed the life of our dear friend and founder of MMAWeekly on Wednesday 5/31/2006 while traveling with his family. While driving to St. George, UT the tire blew out on his car, causing the vehicle to roll. Ryan was killed instantly. Ryan's wife, Tonya, is still in surgery and two of his children are still in the hospital, while his two youngest have checked out fine. Our prayers and blessings are with the Bennett family at this terrible hour in their lives. This is a great loss to the MMA community. And, the loss of a great friend to many.
Please keep Ryan's family in your prayers.

Ron Waterman successfully defends his WEC Super Heavyweight belt!
With Mike Serr dropping out of the main event just days before the fight and Ricco Rodriguez losing his opponent as well, the WEC reshuffled the deck with a new and improved main event.
Credit both fighters for taking this fight on such short notice especially considering the upgrade in competition.
Defying the odds, Ron Waterman controlled the action throughout the fight rendering him a unanimous decision over the former UFC champion.
H2O appeared to take down the former champion at will scoring numerous takedowns and establishing his ground and pound.
After such a dominating performance over one of the world's best MMA fighters only one question remains.....
Who's next???

July 3, 2004 - Pancrase Korea cancelled!
As of today the entire fight card will be cancelled as the Korean promoter has run into serious financial trouble and cannot fund the event. Looks like Ron Waterman vs. Josh Barnett fight will have to wait, for now.
This has to leave a bad taste in the mouth of Pancrase who is not known for this sort of thing. In the end Pancrase, the fighters, and most of all the fans are the ones who will pay for this setback.
